Books, beers, and cats! Join us for the draft & can release of Typing Spy Cats Blonde Ale brewed with orange, pineapple, and pomegranate. And we’ve partnered with our favorite artist Hadley Ambrose to craft an exclusive glass to purrfectly pair with our annual cat beer release.
Typing Spy Cats is inspired by the novel, “Starter Villain” by John Scalzi. In this supervillain parody there are the usual trappings of your typical villain: lair with a volcano, giant laser death rays, and hench people. But what isn’t typical are a cadre of hyper-intelligent cats who are spies AND they can type. (They also happen to be quite adept at saving lives and investing in real estate.) Take a good look at the cat in your life … they may just be reporting back to a billionaire supervillain and you’d never know it.
While crafting this beer inspired by the Aruba Ariba Caribbean cocktail, we had the lair in the Caribbean (complete with a volcano) and the orange color of the spy cats from the novel in mind. A refreshing base of pale, pilsner, and wheat malts are the backdrop for this inspired cocktail variant. Fermented warm to drive a complex variety of fruity esters to mimic white rum while maintaining the crisp backbone. To replicate the fruit and grenadine cocktail flavors, we added orange, pineapple, and pomegranate purées. This beer is a tropical escape to be enjoyed on the hottest of days while chilling at your supervillain lair with a trusty spy cat or two by your side.
