Book Release: A Question of Family by Francois Bereaud
Join us in the Fiction taproom to celebrate the release of Francois Bereaud's new book, A Question of Family. He'll have copies of his book for sale, will be happy to sign them, and there will be a Q&A session.
About Francois:
He's the author of San Diego Stories, published in September 2024 by Cowboy Jamboree Press. His first novel, A Question of Family, is available from Stanchion Press. He serves as the fiction editor at The Twin Bill and read for Porcupine Literary. In his “real life”, he's a husband, dad, San Diego community college math professor, mentor in the Congolese refugee community, mountain biker, and mediocre hockey player.
About the book:
From François Bereaud, the acclaimed writer of San Diego Stories, comes a novel told in stories that span eras. Meet Walter, Claire, Grace, and Michael, a family in some state of dissolution. This is a story of family, of heartbreak and grace. You'll meet a wife who loses her family, a husband who loses time, their son lost in plays, and their daughter who has lost herself completely, as well as other people whose presence and absence shape who the members of this family are and will become. A Question of Family examines what it means to be alive together.

We'll meet to discuss on Monday, April 6th at 7pm.
As always, Spicy Librarian is our recommended bookstore to grab your copy.

Be sure to check out the Facebook page to join the community and to keep up to date on the monthly polls!
About the Book:
Stella Lane thinks math is the only thing that unites the universe. She comes up with algorithms to predict customer purchases—a job that has given her more money than she knows what to do with, and way less experience in the dating department than the average thirty-year-old.
It doesn't help that Stella has Asperger's and French kissing reminds her of a shark getting its teeth cleaned by pilot fish. Her conclusion: she needs lots of practice—with a professional. Which is why she hires escort Michael Phan. The Vietnamese and Swedish stunner can't afford to turn down Stella's offer, and agrees to help her check off all the boxes on her lesson plan—from foreplay to more-than-missionary position...
Before long, Stella not only learns to appreciate his kisses, but crave all of the other things he's making her feel. Their no-nonsense partnership starts making a strange kind of sense. And the pattern that emerges will convince Stella that love is the best kind of logic...

Book Club
April is World Autism Month and we're bringing that to our book club pick: Strong Female Character by Fern Brady.
About the book:
Strong Female Character is about the years in between, and the unique combination of sexism and ableism that so often prevents autistic women from getting diagnosed until adulthood. Coming from a working-class Scottish Catholic family, Fern wasn’t exactly poised to receive an open-minded acceptance of her neurodivergence. With the piercing clarity and wit that has put her at the top of the British comedy scene, she now reflects on the ways her undiagnosed autism influenced her youth, from the tree that functioned as her childhood best friend to the psychiatric facility where she ended up when neither her parents nor school knew what to do with her.

To mark the occasion, we’re tapping Maltering the Deal, a beer inspired by one of the most memorable lines from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. This brew is our own negotiation with the dark side of brewing—rich malt character balanced with just enough bite to keep things interesting. Smooth, bold, and a little dangerous, it’s the kind of beer that might make you reconsider the terms of your agreement after the first sip.
Costumes are highly encouraged (and will be rewarded with a beer shot), lightsabers welcome, and teams will compete for prizes worthy of the Outer Rim. So assemble your squad, study up on your Star Wars lore, and come see if the Force is strong with your trivia team. Just remember… we may alter the deal—so pray we don’t alter it any further.

He needs more fun in his life, and Gabriel is the man for the job.

Gabriel isn’t looking for a serious relationship, but when he spots the hottie in the car beside him on the highway, he can’t resist shooting his shot.
As things heat up between Taylor and Gabriel, their insecurities become relationship roadblocks. Will love become the liability they have always believed it to be, or can it become an asset?

From internet sensation Lindsay Straube comes the first in a searing romantasy series where survival demands submission, and desire is the most dangerous game of all.
Temperance Verus has never been kissed—not exactly ideal for a girl competing in the palace's most closely watched matchmaking ritual. Every year, a select group is invited to bond with the realm's magical basilisks and train in the art of charm, poise, and influence. The prize? A chance to win the prince's favor—and a life of privilege.
